ASR BLOK was founded on October 20, 1959 as a separate association, after the association split from asr HORS due to differences of opinion between the members. ASR BLOK has now existed for over 65 years.
In the past, ASR BLOK has ridden at various riding schools in and around Amsterdam, such as the Amsterdam riding school in the Amsterdamse Bos, Manege Van Meeteren in Abcoude and Manege Kalverhoek in Wijdewormer. In the meantime, the BLOK members have been riding every Wednesday evening at the Hollandsche Manege next to the Vondelpark in the heart of the city for quite some time.
An important part of the history is the carousel group of ASR BLOK , which trains hard every Wednesday, with the goal of becoming the best in the Netherlands. ASR BLOK already won the Dutch Championships once in 1976! The following year, the BLOK members had to take on the organization. This was still at the Amsterdam riding school. Unfortunately, ASR BLOK was then defeated by the Vondelcarrousel of the Hollandsche Manege.
In the beginning, the Kladblok was published, then it became the BLOKNOOT and nowadays an almanac is published every year, in which an overview of the year can be found. These are carefully preserved and the archive goes back to 1991. Part of this is housed at the city archive of Amsterdam. ASR BLOK has been online since 1995. That was when the first BLOK website was launched. In the meantime, the website has moved with the times and is continuously kept up-to-date.
